Valentine’s Day is all about love, and what better way to show you care than with a batch of heart-shaped cakes, cookies, and gourmet desserts, all infused with floral and fruity flavors? Here are the recipes for these heartwarming and delicious treats that will make your Valentine’s celebration truly unforgettable.
1. Rose Petal Heart-Shaped Cake with Rosewater Buttercream
Ingredients:
For the cake:
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp rosewater
½ cup milk
For the rose petal buttercream:
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tbsp rosewater
2-3 tbsp heavy cream (adjust for desired consistency)
Edible rose petals (for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a heart-shaped cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and rosewater.
Gradually add the dry ingredients in three batches, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the buttercream: Beat the butter in a bowl until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating until fluffy. Mix in the rosewater and heavy cream until you reach a spreadable consistency.
Frost the cooled cake with the rose petal buttercream. Garnish with edible rose petals and a sprinkle of edible gold glitter for extra romance.
2. Heart-Shaped Sugar Cookies with Lavender and Rosemary
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp dried lavender flowers
1 tsp finely chopped fresh rosemary
Royal icing (optional, for decoration)
Instructions:
Prepare the dough: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the lavender and rosemary.
Divide the dough into two portions and wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out one portion of dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies.
Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
Once cooled, you can decorate with royal icing or enjoy them as they are.
3. Rosewater Panna Cotta with Raspberry Compote
Ingredients:
For the panna cotta:
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
½ cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp rosewater
2 ½ tsp unflavored gelatin
3 tbsp water
For the raspberry compote:
1 ½ cups fresh raspberries
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
Edible flowers (violets or pansies), for garnish
Instructions:
Prepare the panna cotta: In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 3 tbsp of cold water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to bloom.
In a medium saucepan, heat the cream, milk, and sugar over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot, but not boiling. Remove from heat.
Stir in the vanilla extract and rosewater. Add the bloomed gelatin to the mixture and whisk until fully dissolved.
Pour the mixture into heart-shaped molds or small cups and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
Make the raspberry compote: In a small saucepan, combine the raspberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Heat over medium heat until the raspberries break down and the mixture thickens, about 10-12 minutes. Let it cool.
Once the panna cotta has set, top each with a spoonful of raspberry compote and garnish with edible flowers.
4. Mini Heart-Shaped Pavlovas with Fresh Berries and Mint
Ingredients:
4 large egg whites
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cornstarch
1 tsp white vinegar
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
Edible flowers, for decoration (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the meringue: Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form.
Add the vanilla extract, cornstarch, and vinegar, and beat for another 1-2 minutes.
Spoon the meringue onto the prepared baking sheet, forming mini heart-shaped pavlovas.
Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and leave the pavlovas to cool in the oven for an additional hour.
Assemble the pavlovas: Once cooled, top each pavlova with whipped cream, fresh berries, and mint leaves. Garnish with edible flowers for an extra romantic touch.
5. Rose Petal Jam
Ingredients:
2 cups fresh rose petals (from organic, pesticide-free roses)
2 cups sugar
1 lemon, juiced
1 cup water
1 tbsp lemon zest
Instructions:
Rinse the rose petals under cold water to remove any dirt or bugs.
In a saucepan, combine the rose petals, sugar, lemon juice, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
Cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently, until the rose petals soften and the jam thickens.
Stir in the lemon zest and cook for another 5 minutes.
Transfer the jam to a sterilized jar and let it cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Enjoy on heart-shaped shortbread cookies or spread it over warm scones.
